Exploring the Art of Enfleurage at Hangar South: Our New Journey

At Hangar South, we are beginning to explore the ancient technique of enfleurage in small quantities, using this time-honored method to capture the natural essences of plants. Performed by us on our land in St-Armand in the Eastern Townships, this process is deeply rooted in tradition. We then incorporate the results into our products crafted at our Montreal atelier.

Enfleurage involves using natural fats (in our case, coconut oil) to absorb the scent of plants. We’re currently experimenting with cedar and lavender that we grow ourselves, as well as other local flowers, to see how their delicate aromas can be transformed into exquisite perfumes, candles, and oils.

Since this process is highly meticulous, we work with very small batches to ensure that each blend captures the true essence of the plants. While we are still in the testing phase, the results have been promising, and we’re excited to see how these scents will evolve as we continue to experiment with more flowers and plants from our land.

We believe that enfleurage not only allows us to craft natural fragrances but also deepens our connection to the plants we grow. By working slowly and intentionally, we’re able to preserve the purity of the ingredients we use and create products that are truly reflective of the natural world around us.

The incorporation of these enfleurage oils into our Montreal workshop represents our commitment to keeping the process as close to nature as possible. We are excited to share this new chapter with our clients, offering them products that are not only beautiful but also the result of a sustainable and thoughtful practice.

With each batch, we hope to bring the natural beauty of the Eastern Townships to our clients, through scents that tell a story—of the land, the plants, and the art of perfume-making itself.

With love,

Mika & Dom
